Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing, which leave you free to move (you will get hot) and a closed shoe -- runners give good support. Jewellery can scratch and get broken, so wear as little as possible.

Do I need a partner?
There is no need to bring a partner. Throughout class we rotate students so you will change partners regularly. This provides the opportunity to practice with someone more advanced and gives you the chance to get to know everyone.

Do I have to rotate partners?
Rotation is recommended, but not compulsory. Please let the teacher know if you do not wish to rotate partners.

When can I start?
You can start any week (except for workshop classes).

Silver Class
Have you done Lindy Hop before? Are you plucking up the courage to get out onto the social swing dancefloor? If so you will enjoy this class, which works on fundamental routines which are easy to use socially plus a few uncomplicated variations.

Silver Class classes are held:

Gold Class
This class is aimed at students who have learned most of the basic moves and are already experimenting on the social dancefloor.

Over four or five weeks students in this class work on a short sequence of steps. After this time, when a new routine is introduced to the class, the previous sequence is revised in the second part of the session.

We place strong emphasis on 'Lead and Follow' and 'floor craft' which we consider very important for anyone dancing in a social environment. We also cover 'variations on basics', 'understanding how to interpret the music', 'blues', other Swing styles such as 'Balboa' and 'Shag' and internationally well known jazz routines like 'Jitterbug Stroll' and 'Shim Sham'.

Gold Class classes are held:

Academy Blues Class
What do you do when the music slows down? Academy Blues is a fun class which plays with the rhythms of slow swing music. If you feel ready to have a go at something a little different, we'd love to see you in class.
